• 01

  The pressure gauge of the boiler frequently loses pressure, and the circuit needs to be recharged often.

  Cause: The vessel has lost its nitrogen charge or has a leak, so it does not compensate for the expansion of the heating water and the circuit drops pressure on its own.

  With the boiler cold, knock on the vessel with your knuckles; if it sounds hollow equally on both halves, it has lost its precharge.

  The safety valve is leaking or discharging water when the heating is on.

  Cause: Without the air cushion in the expansion vessel, the pressure in the heating circuit rises too much and the gas valve opens to relieve it.

  Note the cold pressure and after 15 minutes of operation: if it rises significantly and does not drop, suspect the expansion vessel before the valve.

  There are noticeable knocks or noises in the pipes when starting or stopping the heating pump.

  Cause: Without the air cushion to dampen the pressure change, the shock is transmitted throughout the entire system.

  Bleed the air from the radiators and check that the pump is not set to a speed that is too high before attributing the noise to the expansion vessel.

  The pressure rises significantly as soon as the heating is started, even though it is within range when cold.

  Cause: It is typical of a broken membrane: the vessel stops acting as an air cushion and the circuit reacts as if it doesn't have one.

  With the boiler cold, check at the Schrader valve of the expansion vessel if water comes out when pressing the stem; if water comes out, the membrane is damaged.
