Fault code 501 indicates ignition fault with safety lockout. The boiler did not detect a flame after several attempts. Check that the gas is open. If it is open, common causes are: dirty or worn ignition electrode, faulty gas valve, or PCB issues. Reset with the reset button and if it recurs in 1-2 cycles, call a technician.
The Egis Plus is a very robust model with a good track record. With annual maintenance, it can last 15-22 yearsIn Madrid, there are many units in operation that are over 18 years old. The most common faults after 10-12 years are the circulating pump, the plate heat exchanger (due to limescale), and the 3-way valve.
Fault code 101 indicates insufficient pressure (less than 0.5 bar). If it repeatedly drops even after refilling the circuit, there is a leak somewhere: it could be internal (seal inside the boiler), in the expansion vessel (depleted), or in a connection of the radiators. Do not repeatedly refill without locating the source, as it may damage the boiler in the long term.
If the standard boiler is over 15 years old or has recurring faults, switching to a condensing boiler (Clas EVO, Genus EVO) can result in a 25-30% gas saving, recovering the investment in 5-7 years in Madrid.
