Installation and repair of LG air conditioning in Madrid
LG technical service for the entire range: Standard Plus, ARTCOOL Gallery, ARTCOOL Mirror, and multi-split systems. CH codes diagnosed with official equipment, original spare parts, and maintenance contracts.
💡 Direct response
LG Electronics is one of the three largest air conditioning manufacturers on the planet, alongside Daikin and Gree. In Spain (through LG Iberia), it has an extensive network of distributors and the model S12ET Standard Plus it is the best-selling inverter split in the Spanish market for several consecutive years, according to GfK data. Its range ARTCOOL dominated the market for installations with aesthetic restrictions since it was launched in Europe in 2014. The Dual Inverter compressor with double rotary is its distinctive technological bet against Korean and Chinese competition.
The ARTCOOL range: more than aesthetics
🖼️ ARTCOOL Gallery
Interchangeable frame: the customer can insert any picture (or a photo) into the front frame. Functional wall art system. It is widely used in design hospitality in Madrid.
ARTCOOL Mirror
Mirrored front that reflects the surroundings. Practically invisible aesthetically when turned off. The favourite in high-end rental apartments in the centre of Madrid.
⬤ ARTCOOL Standard
Ultra-thin horizontal format without interchangeable or mirrored frame. Integrated WiFi, A++, Dual Inverter. For communities with restrictions on the appearance of equipment.
LG range in the Spanish market
Standard Plus: the bestseller
- S09ET / S12ET / S18ET (Standard Plus) — The most installed range of LG in Spain. Dual Inverter compressor with dual rotor, A++, WiFi with LG ThinQ. Affordable price. Available in 2.5 kW, 3.5 kW, and 5 kW. It is the model we most frequently see in apartments in Madrid of any type of new construction.
- PC09SQ / PC12SQ (Standard) — More economical version, without integrated WiFi. For installations where budget is the main constraint.
Confort Plus: the advanced mid-range series
- Confort Plus S09SQ / S12SQ — A+++, latest generation Dual Inverter, presence sensor for automatic setpoint adjustment. LG's proposal for those who want efficiency without the price of the ARTCOOL or Mitsubishi premium range.
Multi-split
- MU‑2M15/2M14/3M21 — Multi-split outdoor unit for 2 or 3 zones. Suitable for large homes or premises that want to maintain a single outdoor unit. Solid models with good availability of spare parts.
Dual Inverter Compressor: what does it mean in practice
LG has been communicating the Dual Inverter as a differentiator for years. The technical explanation without marketing:
A conventional inverter compressor has a single eccentric rotor what generates parasitic vibration. The LG Dual Inverter uses two rotors offset by 180°, which cancels out the vibrations (counterbalancing). The real result: less compressor noise (around 1-2 dB difference), fewer vibrations transmitted to the structure, and reduced mechanical wear in the long term. The modulation frequency range is also greater (10-120 Hz vs 30-90 Hz in conventional ones), allowing better adaptation to partial loads and improving the actual EER under everyday use conditions.
LG CH codes: diagnostic guide
LG uses the prefix CH (from English Check) followed by a two-digit number. Appearing on the display or in the LG ThinQ app. The most common in the installed base in Madrid:
| CH code | What does it indicate? | First action |
|---|---|---|
| CH01 | Indoor temperature sensor | Check the resistance of the thermistor; replace if it is out of range. |
| CH02 | Internal heat exchanger temperature sensor | Check the position and resistance of the NTC; replace if faulty. |
| CH05 | Error comunicación int.‑ext. | Check communication cable (3 wires) and terminal blocks. Inspect external PCB. |
| CH10 | Outdoor temperature sensor | Outdoor module temperature thermistor; replace |
| CH33 | Compressor temperature sensor | Compressor housing thermistor deteriorated or out of range |
| CH38 | High discharge temperature | Gas leak or condenser fan stopped |
| CH41 | Alta presión | Dirty outdoor condenser (common in Madrid due to dust and cottonwood fluff) |
| CH44 | Baja presión | R-32 or R-410A gas leak; requires locating the leak and recharging |
LG spare parts in stock
- Internal and external PCBs (S09ET, S12ET, ARTCOOL series)
- Dual Inverter and conventional DC motors
- NTC thermistors by position (ambient, evaporator, discharge)
- LG ThinQ WiFi replacement modules
- External control circuit capacitors
Frequently asked questions about LG
Yes. All Standard Plus models (S09ET, S12ET, S18ET) of the current generation include built-in WiFi with the LG ThinQ platform compatible with Google Home, Apple HomeKit, and Amazon Alexa. The standard models PC09SQ do not have integrated WiFi or an add-on module as standard.
Yes, intermittent communication faults are the most difficult to diagnose. The most common causes in Madrid: (1) partially damaged communication wiring (a wire with broken insulation causing intermittent contact), (2) loose terminal blocks in the outdoor unit exposed to vibrations, (3) interference from a nearby photovoltaic inverter or UPS. If the CH05 is intermittent, the cable must be checked metre by metre and continuity measured both when cold and under load.
Yes, the installation is standard for any wall with access for the pipe pass-through. The only additional consideration: the interchangeable front panel has a slight protrusion (about 8-10 mm more than a conventional split) that needs to be considered if the installation is very close to the ceiling or a side cabinet.
In general, yes, with exceptions. Most LG units from the 2013‑2018 generation (P09EN, P12EN series and similar) have spare parts available or equivalents. The most common bottleneck: the external PCBs of older models may have lead times of 5‑10 days. Those using R‑22 (pre‑2010) can no longer be legally recharged with that gas, and if there is a leak, they can only be repaired if the remaining refrigerant in the circuit is sufficient to continue operating.
Do you have a faulty LG or do you want to install it in Madrid?
The CH code and the model (slip paper under the indoor unit) are sufficient to guide you before the visit.
