Direct drive compressor without belt or reduction. Fewer moving parts, greater durability and efficiency.
📋 25 years of average lifespan
With annual maintenance, the Mr. Slim range has the highest average longevity in the installed base in Spain.
💡 What distinguishes this brand
Mitsubishi Electric has been manufacturing residential splits for over four decades under the name Mr. SlimIn Spain, the MSZ‑HR range is the most installed by volume and has the best repair cost ratio throughout the equipment's lifespan. Its premium models (MSZ‑FH, MSZ‑LN) use Plasma Quad+ filters that trap viruses and allergens, making them the preferred choice for customers with asthma or allergies. Important: Mitsubishi Electric and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries are different companies. and their equipment does not share spare parts or technicians.
Mitsubishi Electric models in the Spanish market
The Mitsubishi Electric catalogue is extensive, but in Madrid, the installed base is concentrated in a few ranges. We list them from highest to lowest presence in the field:
The most common in apartments in Madrid
- MSZ‑HR (Standard Inverter) — By far the most installed model. No built-in WiFi (added with MAC‑567IF‑E module). Very reliable, spare parts easily available. The R‑410A from models prior to 2022 is starting to be replaced by R‑32 in new units.
- MSZ‑GJ / MSZ‑SF (discontinued, still in the field) — Generation 2012‑2018. Excellent durability. Its most common faults are the capacitor of the control circuit and the heat exchanger gasket. Spare parts available, although some with lead times of 3‑5 days.
- MSZ‑AP (Advanced Plus) — Integrated WiFi, A++, mid-high range. The preferred model currently in second-hand apartment renovations. DC fan motor more efficient than the HR.
Premium range and high efficiency
- MSZ‑FH (Diamond) — A+++, Plasma Quad+ filter, WiFi, SCOP up to 5.2. The best performance in the Mitsubishi Electric residential range. Ideal for those with allergies or seeking real air purification (not just decorative).
- MSZ‑LN (Linea) — Premium design (available in up to 5 colours), 19 dB in silent mode, operating temperature down to -20 °C. The quietest in the range and the one we find in hotels and luxury accommodations.
- MSZ‑EF (Icon) — Ultra-thin horizontal body<80 mm de profundidad), para techos bajos o paredes con poco espacio de montaje.
Multi-split and commercial
- MXZ‑2D / 3D / 4D / 5D — Multi-split outdoor units for 2 to 5 zones. In residential communities in Madrid where only one unit is allowed on the facade, these systems are the cleanest solution.
- PURY‑EP / SEZ‑KD — City Multi VRF system for hotels, offices, and buildings. Widely implemented in the tertiary sector in Madrid.
Diagnosis: most repeated codes in our workshop
Mitsubishi Electric uses its own nomenclature that combines letters (P = protection, E = communication error, A = functional alarm). The most frequent ones in the interventions we carry out in Madrid:
| Code | What does it indicate? | Routine intervention |
|---|---|---|
| P1 | Ambient temperature thermistor | Replacement of the NTC sensor. Economical part, 30 minutes of work |
| P2 | Thermistor of the internal heat exchanger | Check the thermistor resistance with a multimeter. If it is out of range, replace it. |
| P4 | Drain level float | Tray full or drain pump blocked. Clean first; if it persists, check the pump. |
| P6 | Frost protection | In Madrid, very common due to clogged filters. Vacuum filters before calling the technician. |
| PA | Overcurrent in the inverter module | IPM fault or compressor with faulty windings. Measure starting currents |
| E6 | Error de comunicación con mando | Generally a fault in the data cable (S1-S2) or the infrared reception module |
| E9 | Internal/external communication fault | Cable between units damaged or external PCB. Check continuity of the 3-wire cable. |
| A0 | External alarm active | External alarm signal activated (common in installations with pressure switches or relays) |
Frequently Asked Questions about Mitsubishi Electric
No. It's the question we get asked the most. Mitsubishi Electric Corporation (consumer products, automation, electronics, air conditioning Mr. Slim) and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (industrial naval, aerospace, heavy machinery, Diamond air conditioning) are completely independent companies within the Japanese Mitsubishi keiretsu. Both use the three-diamond logo due to their historical origin in the Mitsubishi Group, but they are separate legal entities, factories, and service networks. A spare part for MSZ‑HR not compatible with an SRK‑ZS from Mitsubishi Heavy.
The MSZ-HR is the entry-level range from Mitsubishi Electric, designed to compete on price. To keep costs down, the WiFi module is omitted. The MAC-567IF-E adapter (around 60-80 € + installation) can be added later, which connects to the MELCloud app. The MSZ-AP (Advanced Plus range) and everything above (FH, LN) already come with integrated WiFi from the factory at no additional cost.
The Plasma Quad+ uses four simultaneous purification technologies: a large particle pre-filter, a plasma charge electrostatic filter, a fine fibre HEPA filter, and an enzymatic deodorising catalyst. In internal tests by Mitsubishi Electric, it removes 99.8% of 0.3 µm particles and reduces mites and spores. For seasonal allergies in Madrid (spring, high concentration of plane trees), it is currently the most effective system on the market.
Internal dripping almost always has one of these three causes: (1) blocked drainage —lint, limescale, or algae blocking the drain pipe— solution: clean or blow out the drain; (2) dirty evaporator that with the ice melting produces more water than the drainage can evacuate; (3) inadequate inclination of the indoor unit if it was poorly installed or the wall has shifted. 90% of cases are resolved with a professional cleaning of the interior or by unclogging the drainage.
In a 25‑35 m² apartment in Madrid with intensive use in summer (8‑10 h/day at 24 °C), an MSZ‑HR 2.5 kW (9,000 BTU) consumes approximately 90-130 kWh/monthAt an average of €0.18/kWh, it comes out to between €16 and €23 per month. In winter, heating consumption is lower because the COP is higher than in cooling for those temperature conditions. A well-maintained unit consumes between 10% and 20% less than one with dirty filters or low gas.
