  The hot water comes out lukewarm or loses pressure a few seconds after opening the tap.

  Cause: The plates of the heat exchanger are becoming coated with scale on the inside and are no longer transferring heat effectively from the primary circuit to the domestic hot water.

  Check if the temperature improves by reducing the flow of the tap; if it improves, focus more on limescale buildup than on the broken part.

  The heating pressure rises on its own or the expansion vessel is leaking without any visible external leak from the boiler.

  Cause: An internal crack in the heat exchanger allows water from the domestic circuit to flow into the heating circuit, which pushes the pressure up.

  Close the filling valve for a couple of days and check if the pressure rises the same without having touched anything, indicating that water is entering from inside.

  Hot water is coming out of a hot water tap even when it is closed, or the heating circuit is losing pressure for no apparent reason.

  Cause: The heat exchanger mixes the two circuits when the plates are perforated or heavily corroded on the inside.

  With the boiler cold, open only the heating filling valve and check if water comes out from any closed domestic tap.

  There is a visible water leak in the heat exchanger body itself, between the plates or through the joints.

  Cause: The gasket sealing the plate pack has degraded due to the heating cycles of the boiler.

  Dry the area well, turn on the boiler, and check if the drop reappears right on the body of the heat exchanger before concluding.
