The needle does not move or stays fixed at a certain value, without following the operation of the boiler.
Cause: The capillary and the remote bulb form a sealed circuit; if the mechanism gets stuck or the capillary is damaged, the needle stops moving with temperature changes.
First, check that the remote bulb is properly placed in its measuring sleeve and has not moved before replacing the thermometer.

The capillary is bent, broken, or there is a visible liquid leak at some point along the path.
Cause: It is a thin and poorly protected tube, easy to damage when handling the boiler or when passing near other components.
Follow the complete path of the capillary from the sphere to the bulb: a bend without leakage can sometimes be corrected without replacing the part.

The gauge shows no reading, the needle seems to be off the printed scale.
Cause: If the mechanism loses internal fluid or gets stuck, the needle may remain outside the normal range of the scale instead of indicating the minimum.
Note the exact point where the needle stops and compare it with the actual temperature of the circuit: if it never moves from there regardless of what happens in the boiler, the mechanism is faulty.

The needle reacts very slowly or with a delay regarding the temperature changes of the boiler.
Cause: Over time, the internal fluid of the capillary loses some of its responsiveness, especially if it has previously undergone any bending.
Compare the response time when starting the boiler cold: if it takes several extra minutes to start moving, it is advisable to check the capillary before considering the thermometer to be good.
