The air-to-water heat pump extracts thermal energy from the outside air and transfers it to the internal hydraulic circuit of your home or business. The result is low-temperature hot water —ideal for underfloor heating and fan coils— and domestic hot water (DHW), all with a performance significantly higher than any combustion technology. In Madrid, the average COP ranges from 2.8 to 4.2 depending on the outside temperature: for every kilowatt of electricity consumed, the unit delivers between 2.8 and 4.2 kW of useful heat.
Aerothermal energy is compatible with underfloor heating (ideal emitter: operates at 35-45 °C, within the optimal range of the heat pump), low-temperature fan coils, and radiators designed to work at a maximum of 50 °C. Does aerothermal work well in winter in Madrid, even with frost?
Yes. The current models of Daikin Altherma, Mitsubishi Ecodan, and similar systems operate at full capacity down to -15 °C and continue functioning (with partial loss of COP) down to -25 °C. In Madrid, temperatures rarely drop below -5 °C, so the winter performance is high. On the coldest days, the COP may fall to 2.0-2.5, but the system remains more efficient than a gas boiler. The auxiliary electric resistance acts only as a safety backup in extreme conditions.
Can I replace my gas boiler with a heat pump without changing the radiators?
Viability depends on emitters, working temperature, and household demand. Necessary checks and their cost are specified before scheduling the visit.
What maintenance does an air-to-water heat pump need?
