Double Gas Solenoid Valve EV1/EV2 Chaffoteaux VM 282/2-5 - Ref. 053462
The gas solenoid valve regulates and allows the flow of gas to the burner in the boiler. This model from Chaffoteaux, reference 053462, has two internal solenoid valves identified as EV1 and EV2. If it fails, the user may notice that the boiler does not ignite, experiences flame lockouts, or has modulation issues, which can result in faults such as F.26, F.61, or F.28. It is compatible with several models, including the VM 282/2-5, as well as others from the turboTEC and atmoTEC ranges. It is recommended to replace it when these symptoms or associated faults are detected.

How to check if ref. 053462 is the part for your boiler
What determines it is not the boiler model, but the reference printed on the part you already have installed.
- Find the reference printed on the installed part and check whether it matches the catalogue reference 053462. If it is not visible, do not identify the part from its shape alone.
- Check the full boiler model on its data plate and look for it in the model associations on this page.
- Compare the connections and physical body with the original part before installation.
- If anything is unclear, send us a photo of the marking via WhatsApp before placing your order.
Symptoms and faults that the gas valve 053462 resolves
The gas valve regulates and modulates the gas flow to the burner. These are the typical symptoms and what to do:
Common symptoms and faults
- 01
The boiler does not ignite or locks out immediately upon attempting to start.
Cause: The solenoid valve does not allow gas to flow to the burner, and the boiler locks out because there is no flame.
Check that the coil receives voltage when you try to turn on the boiler before assuming that the gas valve is broken.
- 02
The flame is unstable, it sputters or goes out and reignites on its own.
Cause: One of the two internal solenoid valves (EV1 or EV2) does not open or close properly, which disrupts the gas flow.
Check the gas inlet pressure and the filter before blaming the gas valve.
- 03
The boiler loses power and always gives the same flame, it doesn't modulate.
Cause: The modulation solenoid does not adjust the gas flow, so it always remains the same.
Check that the modulator cable is not loose or corroded before replacing the entire gas valve.
- 04
There is a smell of gas near the gas valve, whether the boiler is off or running.
Cause: There is a leak in the body or in the joints of the solenoid valve.
Shut off the gas immediately and use soapy water to find the exact point; if you confirm the leak, do not turn the boiler back on.
Fault codes from Vaillant that this part resolves.
| Code | Fault | Diagnosis and solution |
|---|---|---|
| F.26 | The gas valve is not working. | The gas valve does not activate because the stepper motor or the coils are open, shorted, or disconnected. To determine if this is the case, measure the resistance and insulation of the coils and check the signal and return from the motor at the PCB when you try to turn on the boiler. |
| F.61 | The gas valve does not activate. | The gas valve cannot be activated because the coils are shorted or there is a ground leak, or due to a wiring issue. Check the resistance and insulation of the coils, inspect the wiring harness, and the control signal from the PCB. |
| F.62 | The gas valve takes time to close. | The gas valve stays open or does not close properly, taking time to cut off the gas and keeping the flame lit after the shut-off command. Check if it closes well and quickly, and rule out any internal leaks. |
| F.28 | The boiler does not start: faults when igniting. | The gas valve does not open or is misadjusted, preventing gas from flowing during ignition. Check the inlet pressure, the control signal, and whether the valve actually opens during ignition. |
| F.29 | The flame goes out and does not ignite again. | The gas valve intermittently fails, causing the flame to go out. This may be due to a drop in flow or sealing issues when hot. Check the stability of the pressure and the operation of the valve under load, and replace or adjust it if necessary. |
These symptoms can have more than one cause. If your boiler displays a fault code, send it to us via WhatsApp along with a photo of the labeling, and we'll tell you if this is the part.
