Vaillant turboTEC Pro VMW ES 242/3-3 M Display PCB Ref. 0020040154
Display PCB for Vaillant turboTEC pro VMW ES 242/3-3 M. It is the user interface: it shows pressure/status, fault codes, and allows you to operate the boiler. Refurbished and tested, it replaces the previous part number 0020023068. It is not the main PCB (BMU) and does not resolve gas, pump, or pressure faults.

Symptoms and faults that the PCB 0020040154 resolves.
The PCB controls the ignition, modulation, and safety features of the boiler. These are the typical symptoms and what to do:
Common symptoms and faults
- 01
Screen off but the boiler heats with external control.
Cause: Absence of 5 Vcc at the display connector, damaged cable harness or faulty display.
Measure 5 Vcc supplied by the main electronics at the display connector; check the continuity of the harness and, if there are stable 5 Vcc, replace the display.
- 02
Faint LCD segments, permanently black or unreadable
Cause: LCD fatigue or display driver fatigue
Adjust contrast/brightness (if applicable), gently tap the frame to rule out a loose connection; if the issue persists, replace the display module.
- 03
The +/−/i keys are not responding or are doing so randomly.
Cause: Display keyboard or internal tracks damaged
Run key tests from the diagnostic mode; if the connector and 5 Vcc are correct and the main PCB responds with the remote control, replace the display.
- 04
Fault code F.70 after changing parts
Cause: Main display and electronics replaced at the same time without parameterization.
Enter the variant code of the device in d.93 according to the manual; if it appears after changing only the display, check reference/compatibility.
- 05
Flashing/reset of the display when starting the pump or fan
Cause: Low voltage drop or false contact of the harness
Measure the stability of 5 Vcc during demand; check and clean the contacts of the connector; if the 5 Vcc drops from the BMU, check the power supply of the main PCB.
Fault codes from Vaillant that this part resolves.
| Code | Fault | Diagnosis and solution |
|---|---|---|
| F.70 | Invalid appliance variant for display and/or electronics | It appears if the display and the main electronics are changed at the same time. Solution: enter the correct variant of the device in d.93. There is a direct relationship with this part when it is replaced together with the BMU. |
| F.49 | Low voltage on eBUS | Typical cause: short circuit/overload in eBUS or two sources with different polarity. It is not usually caused by the display; check eBUS accessories/wiring. If it persists with eBUS disconnected, check the main electronics. |
| F.28 | Ignition fault | It is not caused by the display. Check the gas supply and adjustment, ignition electrode/cable, grounding, and gas valve. Changing the display does not fix this fault. |
| F.29 | Flame loss during operation | Not related to the display. Check gas supply, ionization, and ground. Diagnosis and repair in the combustion/safety circuit. |
| F.75 | No pressure rise when starting the pump. | It is not caused by the display. Check the water pressure sensor, pump, air in the circuit, and installation pressure. Changing the display is not applicable except for visualizing the pressure and the fault. |
These symptoms can have more than one cause. If your boiler displays a fault code, send it to us via WhatsApp along with a photo of the labeling, and we'll tell you if this is the part.

- Vaillant reference
- 0020040154 (display), replaces 0020023068.
- Compatibility confirmed
- turboTEC pro VMW 242/3-3 M; also valid for 242/4-3 M (R1) according to the parts list
- Power supply
- 5 Vcc (from main electronics/BMU)
- Location
- Control box, front; parts list group 4912 pos. 05
- Connection
- Multipolar connector using dedicated harness (e.g., cable 081222 in parts list)
- Boiler power
- 24 kW (model 242; 9.6–24.0 kW according to manual ES)
- Mandatory power supply cut and gas shut-off before intervention; only qualified personnel should energize for measurements.
- Electrostatic discharge (ESD): handle the PCB with a wrist strap/grounding and avoid touching traces and pins.
- No intervention is required in hydraulics: no bleeding or replacement of seals is necessary, unless additional components are disassembled.
- Do not confuse with the main PCB (BMU). The BMU operates at 230 V~ and controls the gas and pump.
- After changing the display and BMU at the same time, parameterize d.93 with the correct variant to eliminate F.70.
- Always check the reference in the documentation/schematic of the model before assembling.
