How to check if it is the part for your boiler
The part reference, model, and equipment revision must be verified against the manufacturer's documentation.
- Check the soldering side of your PCB: it should have 734629, 1600-30, BM-AF, and BC-AF printed on it. Also, verify that it has terminals L, N, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, and 9, and a 10 A relay.
- Also compare the marked codes: 001596 2, 734498, 7346 34.5 and 00 00711921 008.
- Confirm the type of your boiler on its rating plate, located at the bottom of the unit (according to the Vaillant user manual).
- Do not consider 734629 and 0020034604 as equal: they do not match on the read pages. Always compare the printed codes.
- if they match, call us at 911 17 77 77 with your boiler model. Any questions? Send us a photo of the PCB and the data plate of the boiler from Contact.
Symptoms that require diagnosis in the Vaillant.
Common symptoms and faults
- 01
The boiler does not ignite: after three attempts without a flame, the fault code F.28 appears and it goes into fault mode.
Cause: Gas shortage or ignition failure, faulty electrodes or damaged PCB.
If it repeats, have a technician check it. Do not attempt to reset multiple times in a row.
- 02
The boiler shuts down during operation and the restart fails (fault code F.29).
Cause: Temporary gas cut, gas recirculation, condensates, or faulty grounding.
Have a technician check it.
- 03
The gas valve does not activate: the boiler stops with fault code F.61.
Cause: Fault in the wiring or in the coils of the gas valve, or faulty PCB.
Have a technician check it.
- 04
The boiler does not ignite: ignition attempts unsuccessful.
Cause: Insufficient gas or air in the pipe, electrode or ignition cable, electronic igniter or faulty electronic system.
Press Reset once. If it doesn't start, have a technician check it.
- 05
The boiler turns off during use and does not ignite again.
Cause: Gas cut-off or ignition failure. The PCB may be involved.
Check that the gas valve is open and turn the boiler off and on once. If it repeats, have a technician check it.
- 06
The boiler stops working and displays an electronic fault code.
Cause: Electronic fault of the PCB or the connection of the gas valve.
Note the screen code and have it checked by a technician.
- 07
The boiler shows a flame warning with the burner off.
Cause: Flame signal with the burner off: PCB, electrode or gas valve.
Turn it off and on once and check the gas supply. If it happens again, have a technician check it.
- 08
The boiler locks out after several ignition attempts.
Cause: Gas shortage, faulty ignition electrode, or faulty electronic ignition.
Check if there is gas. If it happens again, have a technician check it.
Vaillant fault codes that require diagnosis
| Code | Fault | Technical checks |
|---|---|---|
| F.28 | Start-up fault: after three attempts without flame, the boiler goes into fault. | If it repeats, have a technician check it: it could be the gas, the electrodes, or the PCB. |
| F.29 | Flame loss during operation and failed reignition. | If it repeats, have a technician check it: it could be the gas supply, the flue gas recirculation, the grounding, or the ignition. |
| F.61 | The gas valve does not activate properly: fault in the wiring, coils, or PCB. | Have a technician check it. Point to the PCB if the wiring of the gas valve is correct. |
| F.62 | The gas valve takes time to close after the flame goes out. | Have a technician check it: it could be the gas valve, the electrode, or the PCB. |
| F.63 | Fault in the memory of the PCB (EEPROM). | It usually points to the PCB: have a technician check it. |
| F.67 | The flame signal is not valid: fault in the electronics or ionization. | If it goes out when turning on, have a technician check the PCB and the ionization. |
| F.20 | The safety limiter has been activated due to temperature: the supply or return sensor has exceeded the maximum. | Check that there is water in the circuit and that the pump is circulating. If the flow sensor is poorly connected or faulty, have a technician check it. |
| F.27 | There is a flame signal with the burner off. | A technician should check it: there may be a gas valve that is not closing or a faulty flame controller. |
| F.60 | Gas valve fault: valve cable short-circuited, or defective valve or main PCB. | Have a technician check it. If the gas valve and its wiring are fine, it could be the PCB. |
| F64 | Fault in the PCB or a sensor. | Check the connections of the sensors. If it repeats, point it to the PCB: have a technician check it. |
| F65 | The electronics are too hot. | Ventilate the area where the boiler is located. If it happens again, have a technician check it. |
| F00 | Interruption of the supply temperature sensor. | Check the connection of the sensor. If the cable is fine, point to the sensor or the PCB. A technician will check it. |
| F01 | Interruption of the return temperature sensor. | Check the connection of the sensor. If the cable is fine, point to the sensor or the PCB. A technician will check it. |
These symptoms can have more than one cause. If your boiler displays a fault code, send it to us via WhatsApp along with a photo of the labeling, and we'll tell you if this is the part.

- Pending applications to verify
- VMW ES 240/3 — compatibility mentioned; pending confirmation by variant. Commercial statement, consulted 10/24/2026: Vaillant VMW ES 242-5, for 734629. Pending documentary confirmation from the manufacturer; do not extend to other versions.
- To confirm: Vaillant Thermo Compact 637E and Turbomax Plus 837E — with the 734629: (637E and 837E) and (Turbomax Thermocompact, in the title)
- To confirm: Vaillant VUW (series) — with the 734629 («VUW MAIN PCB», without model list). The 130805 or the 0020034604 appear for Thermocompact, Turbomax, and Aqua Plus; for Turbomax Plus.
- Not compatible or excluded at source: VUW FR 240-3 — Its installation manual (FR02 09/2000) mentions another PCB: 130473 (line "Er.7 Platine 130473")
- Do not confuse: 0020034604 — Vaillant PCB that is offered as a substitute for 130805 (Turbomax, Thermocompact, series VU/VUW) — In the documentation, none link it to 734629: compare the codes before ordering.
- The read pages do not explain 734498, 001596 2, 7346 34.5, or 00 00711921 008. Compare them with those on your PCB.
- 734629 is a Vaillant PCB; without official breakdown. Not confirmed: the exact VMW ES 240/3; there are manuals for the VMW ES 240/3-3M and a technical sheet for the VMW ES 240-3, without PCB data. It confirms. lists 0020034604 for the VMW 240-3.
- Pending confirmation of registered applications by model, variant, or programming: Vaillant VMW ES 240/3.
