The expansion vessel absorbs the expansion of water when heated. These are the typical symptoms and what to do:
Common symptoms and faults

The pressure suddenly rises as soon as the heating is turned on and then gradually decreases.
Cause: The vessel does not cushion the expansion of the water well, and the entire increase in volume is suddenly reflected on the pressure gauge.
Check that the radiator bleed valves are not air-locked before declaring the vessel empty; air in the circuit has a similar effect.

There are noticeable knocks in the pipes when starting the pump or when closing the thermostatic valves.
Cause: Without the cushioning of the expansion vessel, sudden pressure changes are transmitted as water hammer through the system.
Check that the thermostatic valves do not close abruptly and that the automatic air vents are functioning before replacing the expansion vessel.

The water circuit needs to be refilled every few days even though no leaks are visible.
Cause: The pre-charge air in the expansion vessel has escaped, and the system compensates for that lack of cushioning by taking in more water than necessary.
Check the bleed valves, fittings, and the filling valve itself for any leaks: a small leak produces the same symptoms as an empty expansion vessel.

Does the glass sound different when gently tapped on the top and bottom, or does it sound the same across its entire surface?
Cause: In a healthy vessel, there is an area with air (it sounds hollow) and another with water; if it sounds the same throughout, it may be full of water due to membrane rupture.
Compare the sound when tapping the top and bottom of the tank with the boiler cold before deciding on the replacement.
