Fault codes related to this part (not the entire boiler). They usually have more possible causes: first rule out electrodes, wiring/connections, and gas supply. Verified with ≥3 sources.

CodeWhat does it mean?Cause and diagnosis (this part)
F.28Fault during start-up: the boiler fails to ignite the burner in the start-up phase. The ignition transformer is part of the ignition system (transformer + cable + electrode); if the transformer fails, it does not generate the high voltage for the spark, and the boiler aborts the start-up without detecting a flame. Verify: measure the transformer's output voltage to the electrode and check for a spark at each start-up; if there is no spark and the wiring/electrode are fine, the transformer is the cause.
F.29The flame goes out during operation and re-ignition attempts fail. The Vaillant service documentation explicitly lists "the ignition transformer has a spark fault" as the cause of F.29: if the transformer does not reignite after a flame failure, the lockout is triggered. Verify: check the spark generation of the transformer during ignition retries and rule out poor grounding, gas pressure, and condensate pipe before.
How do I know if this ignition transformer is for my boiler?
Verify the reference 287450 printed and ensure your model is on the list of compatible ones; also compare the connections with the original part. It is a Comelite part.
What is it used for?
The ignition transformer generates the high voltage for the electrode spark.
Is there no spark or repeated ignition faults?
No spark at the electrode despite having gas.
Which models is it suitable for?
Part shared by various models (see Compatibility). If your model does not appear, send us a photo of the marking and we will confirm it.
Installation and recommendations
Check the electrode and the high voltage cable.
What does refurbished mean and what coverage does it have?
Part removed from a boiler out of service, inspected and tested. Includes 1-year warranty and 14-day return policy. Delivery within 2–4 working days in the EU.
