  Cause: The pictogram on the extension is the only visual reference for the position in these models.

  Mark the open and closed positions yourself with a marker before changing the part just for this.

  The extension has broken, and a piece remains inside the housing.

  Cause: The plastic of the extension is the weakest part and breaks before the metal key when forcing the turn.

  Try to extract the rest with fine-tipped pliers before declaring the internal key as damaged.
