  The hot water fluctuates in temperature on its own, without touching anything.

  Cause: A detector with a dirty or worn paddle gives irregular flow readings.

  Check if the fault always occurs after a water cut or only with prolonged use of the tap.

  With the tap almost closed it doesn't heat, but fully open it does.

  Cause: A minimum flow rate is required for the detector to close the contact and request ignition.

  Try opening the tap to the maximum; if it turns on, check the mains pressure before the detector.

  Do you notice a faint noise or rattling in the hot water pipe when you turn on the faucet?

  Cause: A loose or worn internal moving part can vibrate as water flows through.

  Check if the noise disappears by lowering the inlet pressure before attributing it to the sensor.
