Not all air conditioning units are the same. The right choice depends on the type of dwelling, the number of rooms to be air-conditioned, the construction possibilities, and the available budget. Below, we explain the four main groups of equipment that we install and repair at Uniclima.
Most installed
Wall-mounted split
An indoor unit + an outdoor unit connected by a refrigerant line. It is the most common solution in bedrooms, living rooms, and offices. Current inverter models consume between 30% and 40% less than fixed-speed ones.
When to choose it: when you want to air condition one or two independent rooms and have space to place an outdoor unit on the facade or terrace.
Several rooms
Multi-split
Connect 2, 3, or 4 indoor units (wall, cassette, or floor) to a single outdoor unit. Ideal for apartments or houses where there is only one available point on the facade or a homeowners' association that limits the number of outdoor units.
When to choose it: when you need to air condition three or more rooms and the community or building only allows one outdoor unit.
Without construction
Laptop
Autonomous unit that extracts heat from the room and expels it outside through an exhaust pipe. It does not require construction work or permanent installation. Typical capacities range from 7,000 to 12,000 BTU (2,000–3,500 W). EER generally between 2.0 and 2.8.
When to choose it: Rental flats where you cannot carry out construction work, temporary offices or server rooms without fixed installation.
Invisible
Ducted
The air handler is concealed in a false ceiling and distributes the conditioned air through sheet metal ducts to grilles in each room. No visible indoor units. Allows zoning with motorized dampers. Requires a plenum of at least 25 cm.
When to choose it: new construction or complete renovation where aesthetics are paramount and there is a budget for a centralized solution.

What power do I need to air condition 15 m²?
Power is calculated based on surface area, height, insulation, orientation, occupancy and use. Simply multiplying square metres by a fixed number is not enough. Before contracting, confirm what study and installation the proposal includes.
Is it worth paying more for an inverter model?
Compare models equivalent in power, declared efficiency, use in cold and heat, noise and installed cost. Consumption difference and amortisation depend on the home, usage schedule and tariff; there is no fixed saving valid for all customers.
Can I install a multi-split without connecting all the indoor units at once?
Yes, although with nuances. The outdoor unit of a multi-split system is designed to operate with all its connections active. Many manufacturers (Daikin, Mitsubishi, LG) allow the system to be started with one or two indoor units and add the rest later, as long as the refrigerant lines and the caps on the unused connections are correctly installed. Consult us beforehand: the sizing of the outdoor unit must consider the final number of indoor units planned.
