Sonceboz 3-Way Valve for Vaillant Boiler VMW 21/245/4-5
The 3-way valve Sonceboz for Vaillant boiler VMW 21/245/4-5 is responsible for directing water between the heating circuit and the domestic hot water circuit. When it fails, you may notice that there is hot water but no heating, or vice versa, or that both circuits are mixing, which can cause problems in the system. This valve is compatible with several models from the ecoTEC plus range, such as the VMW 236/3-5 and the VM 240/3-5, among others. It is recommended to replace it when you experience these symptoms or if the fault codes F.318 or F.326 appear.

How to check if the reference 0020132682 is the part for your boiler
What determines it is not the boiler model, but the reference printed on the part you already have installed.
- Find the reference printed on the installed part and check whether it matches the catalogue reference 0020132682. If it is not visible, do not identify the part from its shape alone.
- Check the full boiler model on its data plate and look for it in the model associations on this page.
- Compare the connections and physical body with the original part before installation.
- If anything is unclear, send us a photo of the marking via WhatsApp before placing your order.
Symptoms and faults that the 3-way valve 0020132682 resolves.
The 3-way valve diverts water between heating and domestic hot water. These are the typical symptoms and what to do:
Common symptoms and faults
- 01
The valve actuator makes a straining noise but does not move.
Cause: The actuator mechanism loses strength or the internal gear slips when forcing a jammed shutter.
Check if the actuator turns a little and then goes back, indicating a damaged gear, before replacing the entire valve.
- 02
The boiler takes too long to provide hot water or never prioritizes the tap over heating.
Cause: The actuator does not move the shutter to the end of the DHW position.
Lower the heating thermostat to the minimum and check if the water comes out hot immediately.
- 03
An error code appears on the control related to the gas valve or the position sensor.
Cause: The microswitch that confirms the end position of the actuator does not detect the position, and the control unit is locked.
Note the exact code displayed on the screen and compare it with the boiler manual before assuming it is the gas valve.
- 04
With the heating on, the domestic hot water circuit also heats up without opening any taps.
Cause: The shutter does not seal properly between positions and allows water to pass into the other circuit.
Close the cold water inlet valve and check if the heating circuit is losing pressure, indicating a cross flow in the gas valve.
Fault codes from Vaillant that this part resolves.
| Code | Fault | Diagnosis and solution |
|---|---|---|
| F.318 | The 3-way motorised valve is not moving. | The actuator/head of the 3-way valve (motor) is faulty or stuck and does not switch; check with test T.02 that the motor receives voltage and that the spindle moves. |
| F.326 | The hydraulic test of the sensor and the actuator has determined that at least two hydraulic components are not functioning. | The blocked/defective 3-way valve prevents switching during the autotest; confirm movement with T.02 and check connector/wiring harness before replacing the actuator/valve. |
These symptoms can have more than one cause. If your boiler displays a fault code, send it to us via WhatsApp along with a photo of the labeling, and we'll tell you if this is the part.
