Vaillant VMW 226/3-3 Primary Heat Exchanger (Giannoni GM30-45-004-09, 0020135129) Ref. GM30-45-004-09
Condensing primary heat exchanger for Vaillant ecoTEC pro VMW 226/3-3. It is the combustion chamber with Giannoni coil that transfers heat to the heating circuit and condenses the flue gases. Refurbished part. Equivalent to Vaillant 0020135129 (replaces 0020018181). Typical faults: blockage, leaks, or tripping of the thermal limiter (F.76).

How to check if the reference GM30-45-004-09 is the part for your boiler.
What determines it is not the boiler model, but the reference printed on the part you already have installed.
Symptoms and faults that the GM30-45-004-09 combustion chambers solve.
Common symptoms and faults
- 01
Stops due to overheating shortly after ignition
Cause: Primary heat exchanger partially obstructed
Check the ΔT supply/return in Live Monitor; if it is high with the correct flow rate, suspect a blockage in the primary circuit.
- 02
Recurring fault codes F.22/F.75 and slow pressure drop
Cause: Micro-leak in the heat exchanger or in its joints
Visual inspection of the chamber: whitish marks/rust, dripping at the siphon; cold tightness test.
- 03
Boiling noises in the combustion chamber
Cause: Hot spots due to scaling in the coil
Listen at the beginning of the cycle; check for rapid temperature rise (F.24) and abnormal ΔT.
- 04
Condensate water with solid residues
Cause: Detachment of internal deposits from the primary.
Check the siphon/condensate path and presence of particles; clean and assess the condition of the primary.
- 05
Smell of smoke upon opening the rear panel after stopping due to F.76.
Cause: Local overheating of the primary
Do not operate with the cover open; check the thermal fuse of the primary and the condition of the insulation.
- 06
Limited modulating power and cold radiators with active burner
Cause: Insufficient flow due to dirty or blocked primary.
Check the pump, filters, and by-pass; if OK, measure ΔT and consider cleaning/replacement of the primary.
Fault codes from Vaillant that this part resolves.
| Code | Fault | Diagnosis and solution |
|---|---|---|
| F.22 | Dry operation/lack of water | Check the pressure (≈1–1.5 bar when cold), bleed the system (P.0), and check for leaks. If there is dripping in the heat exchanger or scale/rust in the chamber, the primary may be perforated. |
| F.23 | Too large temperature differential between supply/return | Check the pump and valves. If the ΔT spikes with the correct pump, suspect blockage in the primary due to scaling; measure ΔT in Live Monitor and check flow rates. |
| F.24 | Too rapid temperature rise (insufficient circulation) | Bleed air, confirm pressure and flow. If it persists, check for internal blockage of the heat exchanger (dirt/limescale) or obstructed return. |
| F.75 | There is no pressure rise when starting the pump. | Check the pressure, air, and flow sensor. A severe obstruction in the primary circuit can prevent the expected pressure increase at startup. |
| F.76 | Overheating protection of the primary heat exchanger activated | Check the wiring/thermal fuse of the primary, the condition of the heat exchanger, and circulation. If there is damage to the fuse or recurring overheating, replace/clean the primary and address the hydraulic cause. |
These symptoms can have more than one cause. If your boiler displays a fault code, send it to us via WhatsApp along with a photo of the labeling, and we'll tell you if this is the part.
