Vaillant VMW 296/3-5 Condensing Primary Heat Exchanger (Giannoni GM30) Ref. GM30-45-006-13
Primary condensing heat exchanger (thermal module) for Vaillant ecoTEC plus VMW 296/3-5. In this boiler, the Giannoni GM30 block transfers heat from the burner to the heating circuit and conducts the condensates. Its poor condition causes overheating (F.23/F.24) or pressure losses if there is perforation.

How to check if the reference GM30-45-006-13 is the part for your boiler.
What determines it is not the boiler model, but the reference printed on the part you already have installed.
Symptoms and faults that the GM30-45-006-13 combustion chambers solve.
Common symptoms and faults
- 01
Lockout with F.23/F.24 a few minutes after demand
Cause: Insufficient flow due to internal obstruction of the heat exchanger
Bleed, clean the return filter, check the pump, and repeat with P.0; if it persists with a very high ΔT, suspect the heat exchanger.
- 02
Very rapid supply temperature rise and cold return
Cause: Reduced internal passage in the primary
Check supply/return values in diagnostics; if the pump delivers and the bypass is correct, check/replace the heat exchanger.
- 03
Slow pressure loss and dripping from the condensate drain
Cause: Possible perforation of the heat exchanger towards the condensate circuit
Close the filling valve, leave the boiler off, and monitor the pressure and siphon discharge; module tightness test.
- 04
F.28 on startup with siphon full or blocked
Cause: Accumulation of condensate in the thermal module
Empty/clean the siphon and duct; check the condensate drainage from the heat exchanger.
- 05
Boiling noises/"kettling" in burner
Cause: Fouling in the fins/tubes of the heat exchanger
Measure ΔT and flow rate; visual inspection of the block and condition of sludge in the circuit.
Fault codes from Vaillant that this part resolves.
| Code | Fault | Diagnosis and solution |
|---|---|---|
| F.22 | Safety shutdown: lack of water | Fill and bleed the installation; check the pressure sensor and pump. If there is an internal leak towards the condensate siphon (continuous dripping with the boiler cold), the heat exchanger may be perforated. |
| F.23 | Disconnection: excessive temperature variation (supply-return) | Bleed, check pump/filters/by-pass. If the hydraulics are correct and the issue persists, the heat exchanger may be partially blocked, excessively raising the flow. |
| F.24 | Disconnection: temperature rise too fast | Check the bleed, flow rate, and pressure. An internal restriction of the heat exchanger accelerates the thermal rise and triggers this lockout. |
| F.20 | Disconnection due to temperature limiter | Check NTC, wiring, and causes of overheating. If the pump and flow are correct, rule out blockage of the heat exchanger. |
| F.28 | Ignition fault | Check gas, ignition, and condensate pipe/siphon. If the condensate drainage from the module is blocked, it may prevent startup. |
These symptoms can have more than one cause. If your boiler displays a fault code, send it to us via WhatsApp along with a photo of the labeling, and we'll tell you if this is the part.

- Check and clean the siphon and condensate drain; ensure that the drainage is free.
- After installation, perform tests P.0/P.1 and the combustion verification/adjustment (CO₂) according to the manual.
- Do not reuse gaskets or manipulate the module with tools that deform the fins.
- Check the exact correspondence by parts list and PCB of the spare part before installation.
