Vaillant Turbomax Plus VMW 242/2-5 Circulating Pump Grundfos VP5/2 - P/N 59866527
If you notice cold radiators, strange noises, or overheating, you may need the Vaillant Turbomax Plus VMW 242/2-5 Grundfos VP5/2 - P/N 59866527 circulation pump. This pump, manufactured by Grundfos, is responsible for moving water through the heating circuit. When it fails, water circulation is affected, which can cause blockages. This model is compatible with boilers from the VM, VMW, VU, VUW, and TurboMax ranges, among others. It is recommended to replace it when fault codes F.75, F.23, or F.24 appear.

How to check if ref. 160928 is the part for your boiler
What determines it is not the boiler model, but the reference printed on the part you already have installed.
- Find the reference printed on the installed part and check whether it matches the catalogue reference 160928. If it is not visible, do not identify the part from its shape alone.
- Check the full boiler model on its data plate and look for it in the model associations on this page.
- Compare the connections and physical body with the original part before installation.
- If anything is unclear, send us a photo of the marking via WhatsApp before placing your order.
Symptoms and faults that the circulator pump 160928 resolves.
The circulation pump circulates the water in the heating circuit. These are the typical symptoms and what to do:
Common symptoms and faults
- 01
The heating is not working and the domestic hot water is coming out weaker than usual.
Cause: The pump moves water for both heating and domestic hot water, so a fault can affect both services at the same time.
Check if the problem occurs only in heating or also at the domestic hot water tap: if it happens in both at the same time, it points more towards the pump.
- 02
There is noise coming from the pump right when the boiler starts up.
Cause: The starting noise usually comes from air in the circuit or from a worn bearing.
Bleed the circuit before concluding that the noise is from the pump and not from trapped air.
- 03
The pump is stuck and does not rotate.
Cause: Sediments and lime seize the impeller when the water hasn't circulated for a while.
Try to manually unlock the shaft through the front slot with a screwdriver before replacing the part.
- 04
Water is dripping from the pump shaft.
Cause: It is the mechanical seal of the shaft, which loses its tightness over years of use.
Dry the area and check both when cold and hot to confirm that the drop is coming from the shaft and not from a nearby fitting.
Fault codes from Vaillant that this part resolves.
| Code | Fault | Diagnosis and solution |
|---|---|---|
| F.75 | When the pump starts, a sufficient pressure increase is not detected. | The circulation pump 160928 blocked/faulty does not generate the pressure increase that the sensor should register; check that the pump rotates and consumes, and that test P.0 shows Δp at start-up. |
| F.23 | Excessive flow-return temperature difference (insufficient circulation). | If the pump does not circulate flow, the supply heats up quickly and the return remains cold, causing a large ΔT; check the pump's performance/speed (D.14/D.19), temperatures, and bleed/filter of the hydraulic block. |
| F.24 | Temperature increase too rapid. | With the pump blocked or with low performance, the water does not circulate and the boiler temperature rises quickly; check the pump rotation and consumption, bleed the circuit, and check pressure/flow rate. |
These symptoms can have more than one cause. If your boiler displays a fault code, send it to us via WhatsApp along with a photo of the labeling, and we'll tell you if this is the part.
