  The valve is leaking continuously from the discharge pipe, whether the boiler is cold or hot.

  Cause: The valve seat does not seal properly, usually due to a particle of scale or dirt, or because the circuit is actually operating above 3 bar.

  Check the pressure on the manometer with the boiler cold: if it already shows close to 3 bar, first check the expansion vessel and the filling valve.

  When heating, the pressure gauge needle rises and the valve starts to bleed water.

  Cause: If the expansion vessel does not absorb the expansion of the water, all that excess pressure has to be released by the safety valve.

  Check the air pressure of the expansion vessel with the boiler cold and depressurized before declaring the valve faulty.

  The test lever is activated and no water comes out.

  Cause: The internal mechanism can seize up over time if it has never been tested, due to limescale or lack of use.

  Try to activate it manually a couple of times; if it still doesn't bleed with high pressure, then it does need to be replaced.

• 04

  The circuit gradually loses pressure and no leaks are visible on the floor or in the radiators.

  Cause: The water comes out through the discharge pipe of the valve and goes directly to the drain, without leaving any puddle in sight.

  Follow the discharge pipe to its outlet and look for signs of scale or recent moisture before concluding that it is the valve.
