Repeat the bleeding, letting the water run a couple of times before changing the gas valve.

Cause: A valve that drips intermittently can release pressure without leaving visible puddles.
Check the expansion vessel: if it has lost air, the pressure rises too much when heating and it may open the valve without being damaged.
