Common symptoms and faults

Continuous dripping from the valve drain for no apparent reason.
Cause: The seat does not seal properly due to wear or limescale buildup.
Check the pre-charge pressure of the expansion vessel when cold: if it is low, the circuit rises faster and may cause dripping even if the valve is not broken.

Bleed water without the boiler forcing pressure.
Cause: An internal leak allows water to pass even below the setting of 3 bar.
Check the actual pressure of the circuit in cold and hot conditions with the manometer before replacing the gas valve.

Pressure loss in the circuit that requires frequent refilling.
Cause: If the seat does not close completely, the circuit loses water gradually without an obvious drip.
Note how many days it takes for the pressure to drop after refilling and rule out leaks in radiators or bleed valves before concluding that it is the gas valve.

It does not reset properly after bleeding: it continues to drip after activating the lever.
Cause: The manual firing can leave a limescale particle on the seat that prevents a tight seal.
Bleed two or three more times in a row to try to remove the dirt before considering the gas valve faulty.
