Guide

How to check if ref. 87172010520 is the part for your boiler

What determines it is not the boiler model, but the reference printed on the part you already have installed.

  1. Find the reference printed on the installed part and check whether it matches the catalogue reference 87172010520. If it is not visible, do not identify the part by its shape alone.
  2. Check the full boiler model on its data plate and look for it in the model associations on this page.
  3. Compare the connections and physical body with the original part before installation.
  4. If anything is unclear, send us a photo of the marking via WhatsApp before placing your order.
Diagnosis and fault codes

Symptoms and faults that the ignition transformer 87172010520 resolves.

The ignition transformer generates the high voltage for the spark of the electrodes. These are the typical symptoms and what to do:

Common symptoms and faults

  • 01

The boiler ignites and seems to work, but the fan does not start or stops right after the ignition attempt.

Cause: The transformer may not be supplying current to the fan or the gas valve due to a fault in its higher power secondary winding.

Measure the voltage at the terminals of the large secondary (10-11) with the multimeter before replacing the transformer.

  • 02

The boiler's display or indicator lights flicker, reset themselves, or show erratic fault codes.

Cause: An unstable voltage in the small secondary winding can cause resets of the electronics on the PCB.

Check the voltage at the terminals of the small secondary (12-13) with the boiler on and note if it fluctuates or drops.

  • 03

The boiler does not start at all, with no indicator lights on, as if it were unplugged.

Cause: If the 230 V primary winding is cut, the secondaries do not receive power and the boiler is not supplied.

Check that 230 V are reaching the primary (terminals 5-7) before concluding that the transformer is broken.

  • 04

It smells like burning near the PCB or the transformer is hot to the touch right after turning on the boiler.

Cause: A short-circuited winding can generate excessive heat and a burnt smell due to excessive current consumption.

With the boiler turned off and disconnected, visually check if the transformer has any signs of overheating or a burnt smell before handling anything under voltage.

These symptoms can have more than one cause. If your boiler displays a fault code, send it to us via WhatsApp along with a photo of the labeling, and we'll tell you if this is the part.
