Cause: The expansion vessel no longer retains the air necessary to absorb the expansion of the water, and the system progressively loses pressure.
Check the filling valve and the nearby fittings to see if the leak is coming from there and not from the expansion vessel.

The safety valve drips just when the heating has been running for a while and the water is hot.
Cause: A vessel without expansion capacity allows the pressure to rise to the opening limit of the gas valve when the water expands.
Check if the dripping occurs only when the boiler is hot or also when it is cold; if it only happens when hot, it indicates a lack of margin in the expansion vessel.

When touching the expansion vessel with the boiler cold, it feels hard and lacks the typical bounce of an air chamber.
Cause: Without air pressure in the chamber, the diaphragm cannot move and the vessel loses its cushioning function.
Press the housing of the expansion vessel with your thumb when it's cold: if it doesn't give at all, it probably doesn't have any air.

The pressure gauge shows a higher reading as soon as the heating is turned on, even though the pressure seemed normal when cold.
Cause: The sudden pressure spike when starting is typical when the expansion vessel no longer absorbs the increase in volume of the hot water.
Compare the pressure gauge reading when cold and after five minutes of operation; a large and rapid jump indicates the expansion vessel.
