Gas valve with double coil (EV1/EV2) and modulator, model 845 Sigma, manufactured by Fabricgas, S.L. (Baxi Roca brand also printed on the part). It is installed in Baxi Roca Laura 30 and 35 boilers. It regulates the gas supply to the burner and modulates the flame between 1 and 37 mbar. It should be replaced if the boiler does not ignite, loses gas, or the flame modulates poorly.

The boiler does not ignite and shows a fault during the initial sparks.
Cause: If one of the two coils (EV1 or EV2) fails, the valve does not open enough for the flame to ignite.
Check the two electrical connectors of the gas valve, one for each coil, before replacing it.

The flame changes intensity on its own, without anyone touching the thermostat or the water tap.
Cause: The valve modulator is not dosing the gas properly, causing the flame to rise and fall erratically.
Check if the variation coincides with the simultaneous use of domestic hot water and heating before blaming the gas valve.

It smells like gas near the boiler, although not always and not very strongly.
Cause: A worn seat in one of the two coils allows some gas to pass through, even though it should be closed.
Apply soapy water to the connections and the body of the gas valve to see if it bubbles before replacing it.

The boiler starts up well but locks out after running for a while.
Cause: A fault in the modulator can cause the flame to be outside the range that the control board considers safe.
Note if the blockage occurs at the same operating time before deciding on the replacement.
