Cause: The gas valve does not open the passage to the burner, and the control board does not detect a flame, which causes it to lock out for safety.
Check that the gas shut-off valve is fully open and that it hasn't been closed after a recent inspection before declaring the valve faulty.

There is a smell of gas in the area of the gas valve, even though the boiler is working.
Cause: The internal sealing or the seals of the gas valve have failed and are leaking gas.
Pass soapy water through the threaded connections of the inlet and outlet before assuming that the leak is coming from inside the gas valve.

The burner either goes to full power or drops suddenly, the flame does not regulate properly.
Cause: The gas valve modulation regulator does not correctly adjust the gas flow according to demand.
Check that the burner and the heat exchanger are clean of soot, as dirty combustion can also cause the flame to appear poorly modulated.

After several ignition attempts, the boiler becomes locked.
Cause: The valve takes time to open or does not open completely, and the control board exhausts the allowed ignition attempts.
Wait a few minutes and try a single reset; if it always gets stuck at the same point in the cycle, it points more towards the gas valve than a specific fault.
