Vaillant Plate Heat Exchanger VMI E/ES 32/362-7 (R3) Ref. 065178
When you open the hot water tap, the Vaillant VMI plate heat exchanger (reference 065178) is responsible for transferring heat from the primary circuit to the domestic hot water instantly. If this part fails, you will notice that the water comes out lukewarm or with fluctuating temperature, and the flow of DHW decreases. This heat exchanger is compatible with Vaillant boilers from the VMI range, as well as with models from the Turbomax and Turboblock/Atmoblock ranges, among others. Replacement is recommended when these symptoms of lack of heat and flow occur.

How to check if ref. 065153 is the part for your boiler
What determines it is not the boiler model, but the reference printed on the part you already have installed.
- Find the reference printed on the installed part and check whether it matches the catalogue reference 065153. If it is not visible, do not identify the part from its shape alone.
- Check the full boiler model on its data plate and look for it in the model associations on this page.
- Compare the connections and physical body with the original part before installation.
- If anything is unclear, send us a photo of the marking via WhatsApp before placing your order.
Symptoms and faults that the heat exchanger 065153 resolves.
The plate heat exchanger transfers heat to the domestic hot water. These are the typical symptoms and what to do:
Common symptoms and faults
- 01
There is no domestic hot water, or it comes out with the temperature constantly changing.
Cause: The plate heat exchanger does not transfer heat well from the primary circuit if it is blocked or damaged internally.
First, check that the boiler ignites without any problem in heating; if it only fails in domestic hot water, the heat exchanger is a clear suspect.
- 02
A drip or damp stain appears right below the area of the heat exchanger.
Cause: The seals between plates give way with the pressure and heat cycles typical of daily use.
Dry the area, turn on the boiler, and observe if the dripping coincides with the demand for domestic hot water; this way you can confirm the source before disassembling anything.
- 03
The pressure in the circuit gradually decreases without any visible water leakage.
Cause: An internal leak in the heat exchanger can allow water to pass between circuits without leaking outside the boiler.
Fill to the correct pressure, note the value, and check the pressure gauge after 24-48 hours without using the boiler.
- 04
There is a noise or vibration when opening the hot water tap that wasn't there before.
Cause: The flow is forced through plates with accumulated scale or partially obstructed.
Check if the noise occurs only with domestic hot water and disappears when you close the tap; that points to the heat exchanger rather than the pump or the gas valve.
These symptoms can have more than one cause. If your boiler displays a fault code, send it to us via WhatsApp along with a photo of the labeling, and we'll tell you if this is the part.
