  Cause: Limescale narrows the internal channels of the plates and reduces the amount of water that can pass through the heat exchanger per minute.

  Measure the flow rate of domestic hot water (DHW) with a bucket and a stopwatch and compare it with that of cold water; a significant difference confirms obstruction.

  The heating system is gradually losing pressure without any visible dripping from the radiators or pipes.

  Cause: An internal crack in the heat exchanger connects the heating circuit with the water network, and the excess is bled through the safety valve.

  Check if the safety valve drips occasionally despite no evident overpressure; it may be a symptom of a cracked heat exchanger.

  The heating water comes out with a different or cloudier tone after refilling the circuit.

  Cause: When the heat exchanger connects both circuits, the mains water introduces air and particles that previously did not enter the closed system.

  Bleed the radiators and check if more air than usual is coming out repeatedly; this is a clue, not a confirmation, of an internal leak in the heat exchanger.
