Vaillant Gas Valve VMW 242/4-5 M Ref. 0020019992

Stock · 1 unit

The Vaillant Gas Valve VMW 242/4-5 M, with reference 0020019992, is a component that regulates the flow of gas to the burner of the boiler. Its function is crucial, as it allows gas to reach the burner under the command of the control board. When this valve fails, the user may notice that the boiler does not ignite, experiences flame lockouts, or has modulation issues. It is compatible with several models from the Vaillant Turbotec range, such as the VM 242/4-5 and the VMW 255/4-7, among others. It should be replaced when faults F.61, F.62, F.26, F.27, or F.28 are detected.

Guide

How to check if ref. 0020019992 is the part for your boiler

What determines it is not the boiler model, but the reference printed on the part you already have installed.

  1. Find the reference printed on the installed part and check whether it matches the catalogue reference 0020019992. If it is not visible, do not identify the part from its shape alone.
  2. Check the full boiler model on its data plate and look for it in the model associations on this page.
  3. Compare the connections and physical body with the original part before installation.
  4. If anything is unclear, send us a photo of the marking via WhatsApp before placing your order.
Diagnosis and fault codes

Symptoms and faults that the gas valve 0020019992 resolves.

The gas valve regulates and modulates the gas flow to the burner. These are the typical symptoms and what to do:

Common symptoms and faults

  • 01

The boiler tries to ignite and turns off after a few seconds, without producing a flame.

Cause: The gas valve does not allow gas to flow to the burner or cuts it off prematurely, and the control board locks for safety.

Measure with a multimeter if current is reaching the gas valve before considering it faulty.

  • 02

The burner is not receiving gas even though the rest of the boiler starts up normally.

Cause: The coil of the gas valve does not open the internal shutter.

Make sure that the main gas shut-off valve is open and that the inlet pressure is correct before replacing the gas valve.

  • 03

The boiler locks out indicating an electrical fault, with no current in the valve circuit.

Cause: The coil has an open circuit and does not generate the necessary magnetic field to open.

Measure continuity at the terminals of the coil with the multimeter; if it indicates an open circuit, confirm that it needs to be replaced.

  • 04

The boiler turns on intermittently, sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't.

Cause: The valve shutter does not open or close consistently due to internal wear.

First, check that there is no fault in the ionization or ignition electrode, as they can cause similar symptoms.

Fault codes from Vaillant that this part resolves.

CodeFaultDiagnosis and solution
F.61Fault: gas valve operationThe PCB cannot actuate the gas valve (coils short-circuited/open or harness damaged), so it does not open/close. Check continuity/insulation of coils and wiring to the valve and ensure the PCB delivers a signal according to the manual.
F.62Gas valve disconnection delayThe gas valve does not close in time or remains slightly open, and the equipment detects gas/flame after the stop command. Check the valve's tightness and closure (leak test and ionization reading) and the electrical condition of the valve/wiring.
F.26Stepper motor current of gas valve not plausibleStepper motor fault of the gas valve (disconnected, faulty, or with interrupted wiring) prevents positioning. Check connectors/harness, coil resistance of the stepper, and signal from the PCB; replace the valve if the motor does not respond.
F.27Safety shutdown: flame simulationAn internal leak in the gas valve (solenoid that does not close tightly) can allow gas to pass through and the equipment 'sees' a flame without demand. Check the tightness and closure of the solenoid with a leak test/manometer and electrical check of the valve.
F.28The appliance does not start: unsuccessful ignition attemptsIf the gas valve is faulty, improperly adjusted, or not the correct part, it does not supply gas for ignition. Check inlet pressure, valve adjustment/offset, and control from the PCB; confirm with diagnostics that the valve operates and replace/adjust if necessary.

These symptoms can have more than one cause. If your boiler displays a fault code, send it to us via WhatsApp along with a photo of the labeling, and we'll tell you if this is the part.
