  Cause: Over the years, the welds or joints of the plates give way and water finds a way out.

  Check if the leak occurs only when the domestic hot water tap is opened or also when it is at rest; if it drips when at rest, it is advisable to first rule out a nearby fitting that is not tightened properly.

  The boiler circuit needs to be filled more frequently than usual, and there is no visible leak outside.

  Cause: An internal leak in the heat exchanger can allow water to pass from one circuit to another without any external signs, which gradually lowers the pressure.

  Check if the pressure loss accelerates when using a lot of domestic hot water; if it coincides, it is an indication of internal leakage before replacing the part.

  The hot water comes out at a lower temperature than it should, or it cuts off intermittently while someone is showering.

  Cause: The limescale that accumulates between the plates reduces the heat exchange between the primary circuit and the domestic hot water circuit.

  Check the water flow with the tap fully open; if the flow is low, first check the cold water inlet filter, as it is sometimes the real culprit.

  The performance of the domestic hot water has been gradually decreasing over the months, not suddenly.

  Cause: It is the typical behavior of a heat exchanger that is becoming scaled internally: the fault is progressive, not sudden.

  If the boiler has not been maintained for several years and the area has hard water, it is reasonable to suspect scale buildup before considering a sudden fault.
