The safety valve releases pressure when the circuit exceeds its setting. These are the typical symptoms and what to do:

Water continuously drips from the valve outlet, even with the boiler cold.
Cause: The seat does not seal properly, often due to lime buildup in the internal mechanism.
Measure the static pressure on the manometer with the boiler cold; if it is already around 3 bar, check the filling or the expansion vessel first.

The pressure rises above normal when heating, and the valve does not trigger.
Cause: The mechanism may be seized due to lack of use, although it could also be because the expansion vessel is not absorbing the water expansion.
Measure the air pressure of the expansion vessel when cold before declaring the valve faulty.

The circuit gradually loses pressure without any visible leak at any other point.
Cause: The water bled from the valve goes through the discharge pipe and may not leave a visible trace if it goes to a drain.
Follow the discharge pipe to the outlet and look for lime deposits or moisture before searching for the leak elsewhere.
