FIME Extractor for Vaillant Boiler VMW 242
The FIME extractor for the Vaillant VMW 242 boiler is a flue fan responsible for expelling combustion gases and generating the necessary draft for the boiler to start. When this part fails, you will notice that the boiler does not ignite or gets locked due to a fault in the flue gas evacuation, and fault codes F.32, F.33, or F.37 may appear. This extractor is compatible with several boiler models, including the VMW 242-3, VMW 242-5, and VM 202-5, among others. It is recommended to replace it when the mentioned symptoms or associated fault codes occur.

How to check if ref. 190215 is the part for your boiler
What determines it is not the boiler model, but the reference printed on the part you already have installed.
- Find the reference printed on the installed part and check whether it matches the catalogue reference 190215. If it is not visible, do not identify the part from its shape alone.
- Check the full boiler model on its data plate and look for it in the model associations on this page.
- Compare the connections and physical body with the original part before installation.
- If anything is unclear, send us a photo of the marking via WhatsApp before placing your order.
Symptoms and faults that the extractor 190215 resolves.
The extractor evacuates the combustion gases with forced draft. These are the typical symptoms and what to do:
Common symptoms and faults
- 01
The boiler is not venting the flue gases properly, and there is a weak draft at the outlet to the outside.
Cause: A fan that spins slowly or has dirty blades does not move enough airflow to carry away the combustion gases.
First, check the flue terminal outside: if it is dirty, blocked, or misaligned, the symptom may not be related to the fan.
- 02
The extractor does not start or makes a strange noise, squeaking or low buzzing, when it is turned on.
Cause: Worn bearings or a seized rotor due to use prevent the motor from reaching the required rotational speed.
With the boiler disconnected, try to manually turn the rotor of the fan: if you feel friction or it doesn't turn freely, the motor is worn out.
- 03
The boiler locks out with a fan or extractor fault and does not restart until reset.
Cause: If the extractor does not reach the revolutions that the control unit expects, the system interprets a safety fault and cuts off the ignition.
Before changing it, check that the electrical connector of the fan is properly fitted and free of oxidation, as a poor connection gives the same warning.
- 04
There is an abnormal heating noticeable in the area of the extractor after several hours of use.
Cause: A motor that is forced by worn bearings or unbalanced blades works harder than normal and overheats.
Touch the casing of the extractor after a cycle of operation, being careful as it may burn: if it is much hotter than usual, it is an indication of internal wear.
Fault codes from Vaillant that this part resolves.
| Code | Fault | Diagnosis and solution |
|---|---|---|
| F.32 | Fault: fan | The extractor fan does not start, is blocked, or does not deliver a Hall signal; the electronics detect absence/anomaly of rpm. Check 230 V at the connector, continuity of the harness, and rpm/Hall signal reading in diagnostics. |
| F.33 | The pressure switch (manometric capsule) does not turn on. | If the fan does not generate sufficient depression, the air pressure switch does not switch, and the unit locks out. Check that the fan is running at the correct speed and that the pressure switch closes with the fan running (hoses, wiring, and contacts). |
| F.37 | Divergence of the number of revolutions during operation | The fan delivers a number of revolutions inconsistent with the setpoint (defective motor/Hall sensor or blockage), and the electronics detect the discrepancy. Verify actual vs. nominal rpm in diagnostics and mechanical condition/signal of the fan. |
These symptoms can have more than one cause. If your boiler displays a fault code, send it to us via WhatsApp along with a photo of the labeling, and we'll tell you if this is the part.
