Boiler Extractor VCM 182/1 E / VMW 182 E Ref. 0020073797
The extractor of the VCM 182/1 E / VMW 182 E boiler is a flue fan responsible for evacuating combustion gases and creating the necessary draft for the boiler to start. When this part fails, the user will notice that the boiler does not ignite or locks out due to a flue gas evacuation fault, and fault codes F.32, F.37, or F.38 may appear. This extractor is compatible with several models, including VCM 182 E, VMW 182 E, and VM 242 E. It should be replaced when a fault in its operation occurs, affecting the performance of the boiler.

How to check if ref. 0020073797 is the part for your boiler
What determines it is not the boiler model, but the reference printed on the part you already have installed.
- Find the reference printed on the installed part and check whether it matches the catalogue reference 0020073797. If it is not visible, do not identify the part by its shape alone.
- Check the full boiler model on its data plate and look for it in the model associations on this page.
- Compare the connections and physical body with the original part before installation.
- If anything is unclear, send us a photo of the marking via WhatsApp before placing your order.
Symptoms and faults that the extractor 0020073797 resolves.
The extractor evacuates the combustion gases with forced draft. These are the typical symptoms and what to do:
Common symptoms and faults
- 01
The boiler won't start and gets locked immediately upon trying.
Cause: If the extractor does not reach the required air flow, the pressure switch does not close and the control board does not allow the gas to flow.
Before replacing the extractor, check that the exhaust duct is not obstructed from the outside (snow, leaves, insects).
- 02
An abnormal noise or vibration is noticeable in the fan while it is operating.
Cause: The wear of the impeller or bearings causes friction or imbalance over time.
With the boiler unplugged, manually turn the impeller to check for any friction, play, or objects stuck inside.
- 03
The fan takes a long time to start or rotates with difficulty at the beginning of the ignition cycle.
Cause: After a period of inactivity, the shaft may seize slightly due to dryness or internal dirt.
Check if the impeller starts on its own after giving it a small manual push; if so, it points to seizing rather than a burnt-out motor.
- 04
The boiler starts up fine on some days and on others it locks out for no apparent reason.
Cause: An extractor that intermittently loses revolutions causes irregular evacuation faults.
Note if the fault coincides with strong winds or bad weather, indicating that the problem may be in the duct and not in the extractor.
Fault codes from Vaillant that this part resolves.
| Code | Fault | Diagnosis and solution |
|---|---|---|
| F.32 | Fan fault: defective or not connected fan. | The VCM 182 extractor does not start or does not deliver Hall rpm signal to the PCB (motor blocked, loose connector/wiring, or damaged winding). Check power supply voltage and Hall signal at the fan connector and ensure the impeller spins freely. |
| F.37 | The fan speed during operation is too high or too low. | The VCM 182 extractor does not maintain speed within tolerance (seized bearings, motor defects, or Hall sensor issues). Check rpm in diagnostics, fan condition, and wiring; if the issue persists, measure Hall signal and motor consumption. |
| F.38 | Fan short circuit. | Electrical short in the VCM 182 extractor motor or its wiring harness causes detection of 'ventilatorkurzschluss'. Check motor insulation, continuity/derivations of the harness, and consumption when powered. |
These symptoms can have more than one cause. If your boiler displays a fault code, send it to us via WhatsApp along with a photo of the labeling, and we'll tell you if this is the part.
