Vaillant VCM 242 E PCB Kit with Transformer
When you turn on the hot water tap or start the heating, the Vaillant VCM 242 E PCB with Transformer is responsible for controlling the ignition, the modulation of the burner, the pump, and the safety features of the boiler. If this part fails, you will notice that the boiler does not start, gets locked, or operates erratically. It is compatible with several models from the VCM ES TurboBLOCK range, such as the VCM ES 242-1, among others. Replace it if you experience faults like F.28, F.63, F.64, F.65, or F.67 to restore its operation.

How to check if ref. 130391 is the part for your boiler
What determines it is not the boiler model, but the reference printed on the part you already have installed.
- Find the reference printed on the installed part and check whether it matches the catalogue reference 130391. If it is not visible, do not identify the part from its shape alone.
- Check the full boiler model on its data plate and look for it in the model associations on this page.
- Compare the connections and physical body with the original part before installation.
- If anything is unclear, send us a photo of the marking via WhatsApp before placing your order.
Symptoms and faults that the PCB 130391 resolves.
The PCB controls the ignition, modulation, and safety features of the boiler. These are the typical symptoms and what to do:
Common symptoms and faults
- 01
The boiler shuts down suddenly and does not ignite again.
Cause: The transformer of the kit is not supplying the correct current to the main PCB.
Measure the output of the transformer with a multimeter before replacing the complete kit.
- 02
The boiler starts but does not heat the circuits that depend on the secondary PCB.
Cause: The secondary PCB is not sending the signal to the corresponding outputs.
Check the connection between the main PCB and the secondary one before replacing the kit.
- 03
Intermittent faults appear that disappear when the boiler is reset.
Cause: A poor connection in the transformer or in the connector between PCBs causes momentary interruptions.
Check that all the connectors of the kit are properly fitted before replacing it.
- 04
The boiler does not show any LED or indication on the screen.
Cause: The transformer is not supplying power to the main PCB.
Check that the transformer receives the 230V input before considering the kit as faulty.
Fault codes from Vaillant that this part resolves.
| Code | Fault | Diagnosis and solution |
|---|---|---|
| F.28 | Start-up fault: ignition failed. | The PCB/ignition transformer (module 130391 in this set) may not trigger or generate HV for the spark; check the trigger signal from the PCB and the transformer's output with a spark tester and continuity to the electrode. |
| F.63 | EEPROM fault. | Fault in the electronic system/EEPROM of the PCB; it is confirmed by measuring that the peripherals are correct and, if it persists, by replacing the PCB (the manual itself indicates PCB replacement). |
| F.64 | Electronic fault/sensor. | The PCB (measurement stages/ADC and references) may read incorrect values even with correct NTCs; isolate NTCs and wiring, and if the measurement remains inconsistent, confirm PCB fault by replacement/cross-testing. |
| F.65 | Electronic temp. fault. | Overheating or defect in the electronics of the PCB; check temperature/location, moisture damage, and inspect the PCB (thermistor/power stages), replacing if necessary. |
| F.67 | Electronic fault/flame (implausible flame signal). | The flame control circuit on the PCB may generate/interpret an erroneous signal even if the electrode is correct; check the ionisation signal and grounding, and if it is unstable with a stable flame, confirm a PCB fault. |
| F.70 | Fault: invalid appliance code (DSN). | Identification error after intervention in electronics (screen and PCB replaced simultaneously or PCB not coded); verify and reprogram DSN/variant according to service manual or replace PCB if it does not accept coding. |
These symptoms can have more than one cause. If your boiler displays a fault code, send it to us via WhatsApp along with a photo of the labeling, and we'll tell you if this is the part.
