  You can hear the clicking of the ignition, but the burner does not ignite.

  Cause: The spark exists but is insufficient to ignite the gas mixture, which is common when the transformer starts to fail.

  Confirm that the gas supply is correct before attributing the fault to the transformer, as this rules out the other common cause.
