Vaillant Ignition Transformer VMI 32/362-7 Ref. 287450

Stock · 4 units

If your boiler does not ignite and shows starting faults, the Vaillant VMI 32/362-7 Ignition Transformer may be the solution. This part is responsible for generating the spark needed to ignite the burner. When it fails, you will notice that the boiler attempts to start unsuccessfully, which can lead to fault codes F.28 and F.29. It is compatible with various boilers from the Vaillant brand, such as the VMI 280-7 and VMI 282-7 models, among others. It is recommended to replace it if you observe ignition problems or if the boiler locks out after several attempts.

Guide

How to check if ref. 287450 is the part for your boiler

What determines it is not the boiler model, but the reference printed on the part you already have installed.

  1. Find the reference printed on the installed part and check whether it matches the catalogue reference 287450. If it is not visible, do not identify the part from its shape alone.
  2. Check the full boiler model on its data plate and look for it in the model associations on this page.
  3. Compare the connections and physical body with the original part before installation.
  4. If anything is unclear, send us a photo of the marking via WhatsApp before placing your order.
Diagnosis and fault codes

Symptoms and faults that the ignition transformer 287450 resolves.

The ignition transformer generates the high voltage for the spark of the electrodes. These are the typical symptoms and what to do:

Common symptoms and faults

  • 01

The boiler does not ignite and the fault persists even after being reset several times.

Cause: If the transformer does not supply current, the ignition system cannot generate a spark in any attempt.

With a multimeter, check if there is current at the transformer input before concluding that the part is faulty.

  • 02

The wiring or the connector of the transformer appear damaged, burnt, or loose.

Cause: This part is sold with the plate, wiring, and connector included because the fault is often in those connections as well, not just in the winding.

Visually inspect the connector and the original wiring for burns or oxidation before deciding on a complete replacement.

  • 03

No arc is visible on the electrode during the ignition attempt.

Cause: Without power to the ignition circuit, there is no energy available to create the spark.

Measure the continuity of the high voltage cable to the electrode; a cut cable gives the same symptom as a faulty transformer.

  • 04

The boiler always locks out during the ignition phase and never starts up.

Cause: Without power in the ignition circuit, the control board does not detect flame and blocks the cycle for safety.

Note the displayed fault code; if it matches the ignition fault and not another cause, the problem is in this circuit.

Fault codes from Vaillant that this part resolves.

CodeFaultDiagnosis and solution
F.28Fault during start-up: the boiler fails to ignite the burner in the start-up phase. The ignition transformer is part of the ignition system (transformer + cable + electrode); if the transformer fails, it does not generate the high voltage for the spark, and the boiler aborts the start-up without detecting a flame. Verify: measure the transformer's output voltage to the electrode and check for a spark at each start-up; if there is no spark and the wiring/electrode are fine, the transformer is the cause.
F.29The flame goes out during operation and re-ignition attempts fail. The Vaillant service documentation explicitly lists "the ignition transformer has a spark fault" as the cause of F.29: if the transformer does not reignite after a flame failure, the lockout is triggered. Verify: check the spark generation of the transformer during ignition retries and rule out poor grounding, gas pressure, and condensate pipe before.

These symptoms can have more than one cause. If your boiler displays a fault code, send it to us via WhatsApp along with a photo of the labeling, and we'll tell you if this is the part.
