Vaillant VCW 240 Boiler Thermometer
The Vaillant VCW 240 boiler thermometer is a manometer that measures and controls the pressure and temperature of the boiler circuit. If it fails, you may notice incorrect readings, which can lead to lockouts due to false low pressure or poor temperature regulation. This thermometer is compatible with several models from the Vaillant Thermocompact and VC ranges, including the VCW 240, VCW 242, VC 240, and VC 282, among others. It is recommended to replace it when it starts giving erroneous readings or when the boiler shows operational issues related to pressure or temperature.

How to check if ref. 101542 is the part for your boiler
What determines it is not the boiler model, but the reference printed on the part you already have installed.
- Find the reference printed on the installed part and check whether it matches the catalogue reference 101542. If it is not visible, do not identify the part from its shape alone.
- Check the full boiler model on its data plate and look for it in the model associations on this page.
- Compare the connections and physical body with the original part before installation.
- If anything is unclear, send us a photo of the marking via WhatsApp before placing your order.
Symptoms and faults that the pressure gauge 101542 resolves.
The manometer shows the pressure of the boiler circuit. These are the typical symptoms and what to do:
Common symptoms and faults
- 01
The boiler heats normally, but the thermometer always shows the same reading; it neither rises nor falls.
Cause: The capillary contains a sealed liquid or gas that pushes the needle through pressure; if the mechanism has seized or the capillary has lost its tightness, the needle stops responding even though the water does change temperature.
Before replacing it, check that the capillary is not crushed or bent at a sharp angle between pipes: a kink can block the reading without the part being faulty.
- 02
A drop or a ring of moisture appears next to the brass fitting, at the base of the sensor.
Cause: The brass fitting is the only connection point with the water circuit; over the years, the gasket or the thread gives way and starts to leak.
Tighten the fitting with an appropriate wrench, without forcing it, and dry the area well: if the moisture reappears within a few hours, the leak is from the part and not from a simple loose tightening.
- 03
The capillary is visibly bent, twisted, or has a flattened section.
Cause: It is a very thin tube with little protection; it can be easily damaged when handling the boiler or when other elements are passed nearby.
Follow the complete path of the capillary visually: if the bend has not caused it to break or leak, sometimes it is enough to carefully redirect it instead of replacing the part.
- 04
The needle moves, but the temperature it indicates does not match what is felt on the pipe.
Cause: The sensor tip of the capillary may have shifted from its original contact point, or the mechanism has lost accuracy with use.
Check that the end of the capillary is still properly positioned at its measurement point and has not come loose before declaring the part defective.
These symptoms can have more than one cause. If your boiler displays a fault code, send it to us via WhatsApp along with a photo of the labeling, and we'll tell you if this is the part.
