The boiler does not heat the domestic hot water even though the heating does work, or vice versa.
Cause: The motor does not move the valve to the correct circuit and the water continues to flow through the same side.
Check if the gas valve motor moves when requesting domestic hot water or heating; if it doesn't move, it could be the motor and not the valve.

The valve motor does not rotate or makes noise when switching.
Cause: The internal gears of the motor are worn out or it has lost power to move the rod.
Check that the valve stem is not stuck due to limescale: move it by hand with the boiler turned off and depressurized.

The valve gets stuck in one position and does not switch circuits.
Cause: The motor does not complete its travel or has become uncoupled from the valve shaft.
Check that the motor is properly fitted onto the valve shaft: a loose coupling gives the same symptom.

The boiler takes a long time to switch from one service to another or gets stuck in between.
Cause: The motor switches slowly when it starts to fail, before completely stopping.
Time how long it takes to switch and compare it with that of a new motor before deciding on the replacement.
