  You have domestic hot water but the radiators are not heating, or vice versa.

  Cause: The motor does not complete the rotation to position the valve in the correct circuit, so it gets stuck halfway between the two modes.

  Listen to see if the motor goes through its start-up cycle (a short hum) when requesting domestic hot water or heating; if nothing moves, focus on the motor before considering other causes.

  A buzzing or strange noise is heard in the area of the valve right when the boiler starts up.

  Cause: The internal gears of the motor wear out or lose lubrication and make noise when forced to turn without completing it.

  With the boiler off and cold, see if you can gently turn the valve shaft by hand; if it's seized, the motor has to exert extra effort, which explains the noise.

  The boiler takes several extra seconds to switch from heating to domestic hot water when you turn on the tap.

  Cause: The motor switches more slowly than usual because the internal gear is worn, although it still manages to complete the cycle.

  Time how long it takes to deliver hot water a couple of times in a row; if the delay is always the same and doesn't improve, motor wear is the most likely explanation.

  The heating and domestic hot water seem to be mixing, with warm radiators when they should be cold.

  Cause: If the motor does not reach the exact position, the valve remains halfway and allows some flow to pass to both circuits simultaneously.

  First, rule out a zone valve or a misconfigured thermostat, as they can cause similar symptoms without the three-way valve being involved.
