  Cause: The vessel is losing air and cannot compensate for the expansion of the water, which causes the pressure to drop on its own.

  With the boiler cold and without pressure in the circuit, check the valve of the expansion vessel to see if it maintains air pressure; if little or nothing comes out, that is the problem.

  Water is coming out of the safety valve after a period of operation of the heating system.

  Cause: If the membrane is not in good condition, the vessel cannot absorb the increase in volume of the hot water, which causes the pressure to rise and opens the gas valve.

  Observe if the dripping occurs when the water is hot and stops when it cools down; that pattern indicates a problem in the expansion vessel, not in the gas valve.

  There are knocks or noises in the pipes when the pump stops.

  Cause: A vessel without air does not dampen the pressure spikes in the circuit, and these are felt as knocks.
